Overview:

When the First Edition was written in 1992, Operational Obstetrics & Gynecology was based primarily on personal experiences and perspectives, and focused on the needs of the sea-going population.

In writing the 2nd Edition, several changes have been incorporated:

1) expanding the applicability of the manual to the other areas of military operations (Air, Sea and Land),

2) adding several chapters not covered in the 1st Edition, and 3)

soliciting and incorporating changes and additions from operationally experienced medical providers from the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard.

This book also includes an introductory video from the Department of Justice - Office of Justice Programs - Office for Victims of Crime. Titled "Sexual Assault Response Teams: Partnering for Success"  - NCJ 209842 - April 2006, this 7 ½-minute video (NCJ 209842) provides a history and context of the multidisciplinary response to sexual assault. Developed by the Minneapolis Medical Research Foundation, the video describes the positive benefits of a collaborative response to victims of sexual violence, highlights the progress the field has made in serving victims, and addresses several emerging issues facing first responders and the ways in which those challenges continue to shape the response of sexual assault response teams.
